DCS Group are launching a charitable campaign in the lead up to Christmas. The campaign entitled “Hats for the Homeless” is the brain child of the team at DCS Recruitment Ltd (part of the DCS Group)

Today’s Manchester is seen as a city of growth and prosperity but the hidden backdrop tells another story:

According to the council’s annual rough sleeper count, nearly twice as many people are sleeping on the streets of Manchester as last year. Seventy people were counted in one night in December, compared with 43 on the same evening in 2014. There were just 10 in 2011

Madeleine Strong of DCS says:

“We were looking for a new way in which to contribute something to the local community and realised that we had a ready made solution at our disposal. We always have a very large stock of woolly hats here for our staff and operators at our logistics division and we felt that these would make a big difference to people who are sleeping rough and out in the elements day and night”

Keeping warm is cited as one of the key elements of survival for the homeless and the wearing of hats can make a huge difference.

“when the head is allowed to get cold and the body is effectively insulated, the body’s core temperature drops a lot more rapidly than most people would expect.”

“When Adam, our Engineering Manager approached me with this idea I was more than happy to help. We have a lot to be thankful for, DCS group has grown out of the revitalised city and we really want to help those who are struggling. The individual’s we are aiming to help are outside, exposed to the elements everyday and night, it’s so easy to just walk past them without a second thought when we are busy rushing around the Christmas markets and shops buying presents for our loved ones. In the grand scheme of things, it’s a small contribution but we hope that the idea will grow and develop into something that will provide significant help in the future”

The hats will be distributed early evening throughout December, Thursday 15th, Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st. Members of the DCS Group will take to the streets on foot and personally hand out the hats, gloves and scarves to vulnerable people. DCS Staff can be identified by their branded DCS uniforms they will also be wearing our official “Hat’s for the homeless” badges.
